Select your individual disability ratings below. We'll apply the official VA combined ratings formula and show your estimated monthly compensation.
How the VA Combined Ratings Formula Works
The VA does not simply add your disability percentages together. Instead, each rating is applied to your remaining "whole person" — the part not already considered disabled.
Example: 70% PTSD + 30% back + 10% tinnitus:
= 1 − (0.30 × 0.70 × 0.90)
= 1 − 0.189 = 0.811 → 81% → rounds to 80%
The VA rounds the raw combined percentage to the nearest 10%, with values ending in 5 rounding up. So 75% rounds to 80%, and 74% rounds to 70%.
- Ratings are applied largest-first for maximum accuracy
- A bilateral factor (+10%) applies if both arms, both legs, or paired body parts are rated
- 100% schedular rating is different from TDIU — both grant full compensation
